History of the Helios Group


1981
: Helios which consisted in accordance with the then valid legislation of the basic organisations of the associated labour: TBLUS, KTD, TKK Srpenica, Oljarna Domžale and Delovna skupnost skupnih služb obtained the new management led by Mr. Uroš Slavinec. Before him Helios was led by Mr. Srečko Satler, Mr. Jerislav Cukrov and Mr. Jurij Detiček.
 

1990: In this year Helios was transformed as regards the organization in accordance with the Companies' Act, this meant end of connecting of ten companies in the chemistry branch, which in the year 1981 associated into SOZD Kemija with its seat in Ljubljana.


1991 – 1995: The investments into renovation of production and storage capacities, expansion of markets, representative offices and companies abroad, large efforts are put to achieve higher quality, fire safety and ecological orientation. In this time Helios got a new image. The project of the total quality management was introduced, the aim of which was the acquisition of the international quality certificate ISO 9001 (which was realized in the year 1994).
 

1996: This year was of key importance for Helios and its further development, as Helios became a joint stock company with entry into court register. The first assembly of Helios's shareholders was held on 26th June 1996. This breaking event was followed by a very dynamic period, marked by numerous structural changes, development transformations and capital associations.


1997 – 1999: In the frame of following development guidances, the contract was signed with strategic partner on establishment of joint venture PPG – Helios. The project of building up a new education distribution centre (IDC) near Moscow was finished, the introduction of ecological standards of the project ISO 14001 was intensively introduced. For the complete growth of the company and its employees the department TQM (Total Quality Management) was established, its activities were gradually transferred also to all daughter companies of the Group. In the year 1998 the Chamber of commerce of Slovenia gave high award to Mr. Uroš Slavinec, president of the Management board for exceptional economic achievements, Helios’s corporate image was ranked among the best graphic works at the international exhibition in Zagreb.
 

2000: In April 2000 the joint venture PPG – Helios, which appeared with the strategic merger of the companies PPG and Helios started its successful way. The bright future was announced to this joint venture already in this year by the Russian car giant producer AutoVaz, that chose exactly PPG – Helios for its best supplier. In this year the discussions on joining Slovene chemical industry started, the bases were set for restructuring of Kemična tovarna Domžale.
 

2001 – 2004: In this period Helios was especially active in expansion and strengthening of its position in the desired markets. In Ukraine a new representative office and in Belgrade a distribution office (DCB) was opened. Besides, in this period five companies joined Helios, namely Chromos Zagreb (2001), trading company Mavrica (2002), the Czech trading company Chedo (2003), Zvezda, tovarna barv in lakov Srbija (2003) and Color Medvode (2004). In accordance with excellent relation to environment, Helios obtained in 2002 environmental certificate ISO 14000.


2005 – 2007: At the successful continuation of set projects, Helios has been developing in interior and exterior areas, in 2006 the largest company of the Group , Helios, Tovarna barv, lakov in umetnih smol Količevo acquired certificate OHSAS 18001 and got an award TOP 10, handed over by the company GV Izobraževanje. In exterior area the company’s expansion continued, mainly joining of the Russian company Odilak (2006), Slovene company Belinka (2007) and Ukrainian company Avrora (2007). In the background integration of daughter companies has been continuously going on with the aim of rationalisation of the Group’s business operations in developmental, production and sales area.
 

2008 – 2009: In the frame of the rationalization of business operations, which was above all the consequence of the global economic crisis we performed organizational changes at the Group's level, wih the integration of the associated companies at the development, production and sales area. At the central location TBLUS we have intensively introduced the new information system SAP , which we plan to introduce into the complete Group. On the basis of the environmental report, the contents of which is prescribed by CEFIC we acquired the right to use the logotype POR – Programme of responsible handling. We successfully performed the recertification of the quality handling system in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 at the central location and performed the control audit of the system of environmental handling according to ISO 4001:2004. In November we got the Environmental permit at the Central location at Količevo and Medvode. We received the award TOP 10 for the systematic investments into the knowledge and care for education and qualifications of the employees.
 

2010:
At the beginning of the year COLOR, d.d. from Medvode merged with the company HELIOS, Tovarna barv, lakov in umetnih smol Količevo, d.o.o. that ceased to exist. With 1st January we transferred major part of business-production processes in Helios TBLUS and Helios Domžale, d.d., to new information system SAP. We were successfully included into national and EU projects according agreements with our partners: two development-investments projects (RIP); strategic RD project (SRRP)and two centres of excellence (Polymer materials and technologies and Nanomaterials and nanotechnologies). In November we received a prestigious Puh’s award for innovations, development achievements and use of scientific results in introduction of novelities in economic practice. At location Zvezda-Helios in Gornji Milanovac in Serbia we opened the door of Training centre for professional training of varnishers, parquet layers. We opened new companies for marketing in Macedonia,Montenegro and Turkey.
